Targeted Health Monitoring & Embedded Education

Data-driven methods to monitor student health, detect trends, and strengthen health education.

Nurses conduct digital clinical assessments to:

  • Track individual student health until full recovery
  • Identify disease trends across schools, enabling early outbreak detection
  • Tailor interventions using real-time data (e.g. prioritise WASH in diarrhoeal hotspots)

We collaborate with schools to:

  • Dedicate curriculum time to evidence-based health education
  • Train nurses and teachers to deliver context-relevant lessons (e.g. menstrual hygiene in high-absenteeism areas)

Systems Strengthening

Building sustainable, inclusive health systems that improve outcomes for all students.

  • WASH: rehabilitate water points and train student hygiene clubs
  • Gender equity: remove barriers that keep girls out of school (e.g. MHM facilities, SRH education)

Why school-based health matters

In Somalia and Somaliland, preventable health conditions often hinder learning and school attendance. Our data shows:

  • 1 in 5 students has untreated vision problems
  • 60% suffer from dental pain that impacts focus
  • 30% of learning challenges are linked to undiagnosed hearing loss
